It’s the end of October and just over a month until my decorations need to be ready for Peterborough Cathedral’s Christmas tree festival.
I thought I had best get started on hand-painting the wooden heart decorations I’ve bought and change them from boring brown into our lovely red for love and to follow up with a touch of sparkle too with some glitter. Oooh just love a bit of sparkle, don’t you?
A couple of hours later and here are the first 100 wooden baubles painted for the WLP Christmas tree… another 100 to go tomorrow….eeek. You know when you think a job will be a quick one!
It’s been all fun and games this morning (November 18th). Walking into Peterborough Cathedral and seeing soooo many beautifully just installed lines of Christmas trees. Even with no decoations they all look lovely. However they are all waiting to have colour and sparkle and love added to them.
It took a lot of patience and many ‘ouch’ pricked fingers as all the heart baubles were placed around the tree from top to bottom. I added an extra touch of sparkle with some really shiny tinsel to make it stand out. The hearts are hear to spread the Christmas love to each and every person who visits or passes our tree, it’s looking good. Then disaster! I looked up and realised I didn’t have a tree topper…. (Will have to rectify that – off to the shops I go.)
I popped back to the Cathedral in the evening, (topper in my pocket), to see the ‘Wonder Of Christmas’ event come to life in the Cathedral at its first showing.
The lights shine brightly in the precinct area in front of the Cathedral after you’ve walked through a silver-lit archway. You’re met with a bit of snowfall from the tower above and a mini light show on the lawn. There’s a reindeer and sleigh, which is great for any family wanting to take a photo together to get into the Christmas spirit.
On entering into the Cathedral you are met with delicate warm ceiling lights which lead up to starlight trailing around the Cathedral ceiling. It all adds to the joy of Christmas.
Walking round the sides and I was greeted with soft coloured lighting in many different colours, it really showed off the architecture of this ancient building and looked perfect. The atmosphere of that and seeing the Christmas trees in the distance was magical.
The Dean was enjoying the opening of the Christmas Tree Festival, mingling around the aisles and viewing the trees. He came along to see our tree and ask about We Love Peterborough.
It’s great to share that We Love Peterborough is an independent business that aims to show off Peterborough as a lovely place to live, you just need to see the positives in your home town. 🥰
After all the painting and sparkling up a ‘lot’ of hearts our tree is looking fabulous in the dimmed lights. That missing tree topper is no more. I couldn’t find a heart shaped ❤️ tree topper so a look-a-like Mrs ‘Susan’ Claus had to do… quite a nice similarity actually! 😆🤣😆
I have to say to the Cathedral’s events team – What a fantastic idea to have lots of small businesses, charities and community groups come to decorate their own tree to be part of the Cathedral’s Christmas Tree Festival which in turn is part of The Wonder of Christmas. All donating to the Cathedral Fund.
It was also wonderful to see lots of different decorations tonight, from hedgehogs to a ‘Wicked’ witch, from hand made designs to mosaic balls, from swans to angels and naughty elves! A fabulous array of over 40 Christmas trees, well worth a visit with all the family.
I can’t wait for next year, I hope we get a tree, I know it’s been popular.
