Do you want to get the kids out walking in the openair, getting a bit of sunshine and burning some energy?
Get in the city centre, specifically Peterborough Cathedral, to do the Shaun the Sheep Trail and find all 12 sheep from Peterborough Cathedral’s Summer of Fun…
I bought a ticket on Wednesday 30th July and did the trail…You’ll find two of them in Queensgate, where can pick up your leaflet for entry. You’ll find one on the lower mall and one of the upper mall. The remaining ones you’ll find at the Cathedral of which entry is by your ticket QR code. (You’ll be directed, but you’ll find the entry on the right hand side of the cathedral through the green gates where you’ll show your tickets)
They have been amazingly decorated – all brightly coloured with some educational notes for each one. Things about the sea, things about eating, things about food, basically lots of small bites of education and there’s a joke on each one too. Like “What is a sheep covered in chocolate called?………. A chocolate baaaaaa”
This kids are going to have fun asking you the jokes of course.
Each Shaun the Sheep is quite big, and looks like they’re rideable… BUT please don’t, you need to keep off please, we wouldn’t want them damaged for anyone else or even for anyone to fall off, no matter how tempting they are for a selfie. Just take your selfies in front of them.
The aim of the trail is to find a letter on each of the sheep you find. Then jumble them all together and make a word. Write this on to your form. Then for some added fun, turn over your leaflet, take a seat in the cathedral activity tables area and colour in to make your very own design of a new sheep. Your leaflet is then posted in the postbox at the entrance as you may win some prizes from Queensgate (who have sponsored this event).
As you walk around the cathedral, you will also find a couple of places where you can rest yourself and the kids and enjoy the films.
I speedily walked through to find all of the sheep and it took me 35 minutes. Do this with your kids in tow, however the trail gives an average of 90 minutes to be done at a reasonably slow pace with children. This is a kids’ activity, obviously however, adults have to pay a ticket as well to get into the Cathedral area, but it means that your ticket cost will help the Cathedral; one to survive and two – to be able to create other events like this for people to do in the city.
There’s not just this walking trail, there is a Fun with the Flock AR trail which you can do with our phones by hunting for different nine things around the city and finding out different information. which are dotted around the city centre. Clue; the trail starts downstairs in Queensgate shopping centre! Every marker unlocks funny animated scenes and silly challenges from Bitzer the Dog’s checklist! You’ll see Shaun and his friends popping up in the most surprising places! Kids will take selfies with the statues, play musical stat-ewes (you’ll love this one!), and help Bitzer find his flock.
Then there’s something unique a Vegetable Orchestra! Playing on a couple of specific days (2 & 23 August) It is held in Queensgate Shopping Centre! You’ll make music using veggie shakers (and yep, carrots can be trumpets!) the kids will be jamming out to the Shaun the Sheep theme with a band of silly performers. Along with this Shaun the Sheep himself will be making surprise visits for photos and cuddles at all the events!
Then at the Farmathlon it’s time for everyone to get involved!!!! In Peterborough Cathedral’s Cloisters for two whole weeks in August! You can join Shaun and the gang for the wackiest farmyard sports ever, can you conquer the Herd-les, Egg 100 metres, the Sty Jump and the Marrow-thon!? Again this includes special appearances from Shaun the Sheep himself.
For all the events you are in with a chance of winning some awesome prizes from Queensgate Shopping Centre!
