Prosecco glasses at the ready… it’s the opening night of the Queen’s Head – the new Pizza Pots & Pints and we’ve come away happy and full-bellied.

The owners have definitely done a #GreatJob out of changing a town centre listed building into a buzzing, casual pub-dining experience. The features of the old building have been retained with wooden beams, fireplaces and brick and old-tile floors, whilst styling it with a modern feel. There’s a couple of reminders that you’re inside a regal establishment with reminders of the good HRH lady herself. You may even spot the door to Buckingham Palace if you’re observant enough!

There’s plenty of tables to choose from inside and when it’s warm there’s a nice little patio area for eating outside at the rear as well as a mezzanine area and a bit of seating outside the front.

Definitely the #CentreOfAttention is #LargeLizzy she’s the hub of food. The pizzas being created by Andrea & Craig were very #ItalianStyled: – thin, minimal and very very tasty. An absolute delight to share and eat. We had samples of the #MargotPizza- simple mozzarella which was straight forward good tasting and #ToniPizza which added a touch of heat with pepperoni along with chilli… something cold and refreshing definitely needed with that one – (we’re not the spiciest of eaters) so a nice pint went down well!

Now it’s not all about pizza so we tried one of the #PotDishes – the Mac&Cheese (v) with Bacon (not v) along with a side of Garlic & Rosemary crushed potatoes (v/gf). Wow that was good. The Mac&Cheese is definitely a pot to be tasty. It’s big enough for two to share and it’s delicious with a great tang of cheese and the bacon just adds a great bite to it. The crusty top is the #IcingOnTheCake as they say. A dish we’d definitely order again in fact ‘One of the best macaroni cheese I’ve ever tasted!’

We’ve touched on a few vegan dishes but it has #GlutenFreeFriendly food too. To #AvoidCrossContamination the pizzas are gluten-free bases and cooked in a separate oven and then served away from other gluten foods. I spoke with Lauren and Heidi who are coeliacs just about to dive into their choice of #GlutenFreePizza. Verdict? It’s a great, thin-based pizza that was really tasty. Definitely the #ThumbsUp.

So what can you expect when you go?
Each table has a number so it’s the modern pub-style dining where you sit down, choose what you want from the no-frills menu and then go to the bar to order. Your food is then #CookedToOrder so be patient if you’ve not ordered pizza as it will take a little longer. If you’re in group and fancy some private time there’s a small function room upstairs that seats up to 10 ideal for a business meeting combined with lunch…

#SpecialOffers for you are:
2-4-1 Mondays – so buy a pizza and get one free!
Live music on a Friday & wait for it… Sunday Roasts!
What you say? Yes they say… Marcus (Manager) advised that the chef will be using local butchers to source their Sunday Roast meats and there’ll be a choice of 2 on the the day. So choose your meat and you’ll get seasonal vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy – £11.50 – booking advised.

The last thing to talk about is just on my lips.. desserts. Alas, we will have to discuss the ‘taste’ of these another night as they don’t arrive until tomorrow… – Eeek totally gutted as I’ve heard from a PR friend ‘Paul’ and Manager ‘Marcus’ how great their ‘chocolate-sandwich-dessert-thingy’ is… #IfItsGotChocolateInIt – It’s good for me!
P.S. I’ll show you later – as I’ll definitely be back!

All-in-all The management, owners and @CharlesWells have done a great job introducing this into our home town of Peterborough.. they’ve waited long enough and had to jump through a few hoops to get it (#ListedBuildingNightmares – no doubt) but it looks set to be a good place to dine with friends and family without breaking the bank.

We personally think the #PizzasArePerfect and the Mac & Cheese is the #DishOfTheDay – is that cheesey? Yes – but so’s the Mac&Cheese!

We’d definitely #RecommendEatingHere so if you go and find a favourite dish – let us know.
