Went for a walk in Central Park today….
However today wasn’t for the walk or photography… it was for a Sunday Lunch!

Yes I’m not dreaming….. The Buttercross has now been converted to The Willow Cafe and Function Room. The cafe itself is hasn’t changed much decoratively ‘yet’ and still serves up coffees, teas, ice cream and cakes but there are fresh daily made cheesecakes and more to choose from… however Christine and Adrian, who are the new owners, have opened up their glorious function room as a restaurant. Currently they are offering a Sunday Lunch menu 12-4pm and a Mad Monday Steak Night 5.30-9.30pm.

The space looks amazing… prime for weddings!
Delicately decorated in silver, white and beige. Fully set tables and a waiter service to add that final touch.

We were given table 11, for two, and were served today by Tom & Luke. The food was wonderfully cooked by Chef Jack who has come from being Head Chef at the Old Bridge Hotel at Huntingdon. He describes his food as ‘suitably robust, British and very honest’.

My husband chose the Willow pâté with toast: a huge serving of pâté with homemade toasted bread slice which was more than ample for a starter.

I opted for the Roast Sirloin of Beef with duck fat roast potatoes, horseradish and gravy. Three thick slices of beef, 3 large roasties, a roasted carrot and a lovely risen Yorkshire. My husband had Honey Roast Ham with potatoes and parsnips. Again 3 thick slices, a roast parsnip and a Yorkshire. Both served with extra seasonal vegetables which were cauliflower cheese, broccoli and cabbage. Gravy is served as an extra jug too so you won’t run out……

Wow what a fabulous Sunday roast, husband declares ‘It’s the BEST Sunday roast n Peterborough’. Well I agree that everything on the plate was deliciously cooked to perfection! Our compliments to The Chef.

I opted for dessert which was the Crème brûlée… what a bowl of delight! A warm creamy base with a thick caramelised layer and a topping of red berries. Jack is definitely a chef who enjoys his job and it shows that he loves food in his food.

Well worth the visit and we’ll be back to try their steak night definitely… just let me get a bit of room in my tummy! 😉
