Poached Eggs to Perfection
Saturday I decided to visit the new cafe in Queensgate Jamaica Blue. It certainly looks inviting with seating both inside and outside the store.
There’s a full front counter showing off delicious pastries like the pumpkin & ginger slice, spianata, bagels, wraps, ciabatta and more. It’s so hard to choose. I wanted to dive in with a piece of Mud Cake but I decided on a proper breakfast instead from their All Day Eats menu.
‘Eggs Your Way’ – I opted for poached eggs. Two eggs come on toasted white sourdough with a touch of sumac (what is sumac? – a vibrant, tangy spice made from the dried and ground berries of the sumac bush – gives a bright, fruity, and citrus-like flavour) I tasted it on its own and it’s not strong; it doesn’t bother the dish. (The only thing I would say is that a knob of butter comes in a separate little dish, the eggs are already on top of the toast, so it’s difficult to actually put butter on the toast. It might be an idea to actually ask if you want your toast buttered or not)Verdict? Perfect!
I would come here every time for this, but…. There really is too much to choose from that looks delicious.
Price?
As a new cafe, I suppose it’s standard now that when you’re in a shopping centre that drinks and food are a bit more on the expensive side so this particular dish was £7.90 for two eggs, toast and butter. The smallest cappuccino was pricey at £3.80, (especially after recently being out in Italy where it’s nowhere near this price) but it was professionally made and was a nice velvety taste, the size I like it.
Service?
Excellent! The staff here are attentive, polite, smiley and regularly make sure that everything is okay. From ordering to eating that was fast too my order came within 5 to 6 minutes. As a new cafe that more than passed my expectations.

I’m taking home the Italian Salami Spianata for my husband to try. Next time it might just be the Yorkshire Pudding Wrap!
