Day 13 of 30 Days of May Challenge: Cabaret Theatre
We’re at The Key Theatre tonight for an Intoxicating One-(wo)Man Show…Dietrich: Natural Duty
It is 1942. On the battlefields of North Africa in a gold sequin gown, Marlene Dietrich takes to the stage to fight the war her way; with an irresistible mix of songs, sequins, sex and sympathy.
This spectacular mixture of theatre and cabaret returns to the UK fresh from its international tour commencing in London and journeying through New York, Adelaide, South Africa and Amsterdam.
I’ve personally never been to drama at the Key, this was an eye-opening one man show that really did take centre stage. Emotional, musical and rivetting. There’s not really much more that I can say… as an older person I know who Marlena Dietrich is however our youngers may not. So it was a case of falling in love with a moviestar in this short portrayal of just one small piece of her lifetime. Standing ovation at the key from the audience. Well done. Created and performed by Peter Groom.
Dietrich: Natural Duty enjoyed a critically acclaimed run at the 2018 Edinburgh Festival and a complete sell-out run at the 2018 VAULT Festival.
Fall in love again with this Hollywood icon and her extraordinary commitment to duty.
“An absolute tour de force, Peter Groom’s take on legendary tectonic beauty Marlene Dietrich is literally breathtaking”
