So this weekend was special in Peterborough as BIG names appeared in a concert on the Embankment organised by LPH Concerts and Events.

Friday night has the vibes of your summer holiday floating around the surrounding area as Cafe Mambo Ibiza played those beats out ready for dancing, laughing and having fun together. It was a good turnout with young and old there reminiscing of being near some sandy beach or just boogying the night away till the early hours. Judge Jules was one of the big names to hit the decks as well as some other like Todd Terry, Roger Sanchez and Paul Oakenfield.

Saturday night and it was the main attraction for me.. Simply Red. First up on stage at 6.20 we had the talented YolanDa Brown who, I have to say, was amazing. She plays the saxophone and it’s fabulous, you can’t not look… the sounds are amazing as she mixes reggae with jazz and soul. It’s a great sound. She’s a beautiful looking women who captivates her audience with a great smile and a fabulous voice too. In fact she’s won the “Best Jazz” category of the MOBOs in consecutive years – how great is that!!! Well worth watching.

Our next bigger name back from the 1980s is the renowned Lisa Stansfield, at 56 still looking as beautiful and as slim as ever… came out with her backing to a roar of applause. Her history is amazing; three Brit Awards, two Ivor Novello Awards, a Billboard Music Award, World Music Award, ASCAP Award, Women’s World Award, Silver Clef Award and two DMC Awards. She has sold over 20 million albums worldwide! We all waiting for her chart topping song; All Around The World and literally, everyone joined in, how could you not!

Lastly what we’d all been waiting for… Mick Hucknall and Simply Red came out at 9pm, right on time, no waiting around… and it was uproar. Out singing straight away, the fans really happy and singing along to their particular favourites. Back from the 1980’s my favourites: Your Mirror and Holding Back The Years. Even at 62 he’s still got it… looks great and his voice hasn’t changed from that fabulous unique sound. Their career has spanned over so many years…At the 1992 and 1993 Brit Awards, they received the award for Best British Group. They received three Grammy Award nominations: for Best New Artist in 1987, and “Holding Back the Years” and “If You Don’t Know Me by Now” for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. Simply Red has sold over 50 million albums.

This was a fabulous evening filled with sunshine, glitter faces, sparkling hats and excellent music. Was a great opportunity for these tours to be coming to Peterborough once again the same as Elton John in 2017, Steps in 2018 and Tom Jones in 2019. When they come we really really do have to support them.
