A while ago an event by The Social Canvas caught my eye so I enrolled. Tonight was the night for creating a painted scene of beach huts.
Carol runs the events in different locations in Peterborough and surrounding areas for something different and a bit of fun. The art events are not formal fine art classes but alternative fun art social experiences.
I turned up at the Windmill at Orton Waterville, got a drink from the bar and took my seat at a table with a top easel complete with large canvas, acrylic paints, paint brushes and water. In total there were 12 of us ladies with different levels of painting experience. Some had been before and others, like me, were brand-new to this type of event.
Carol says, “It’s a different kind of night out where you get to create a one-of-a-kind painting unique to you, guided along step-by-step by the artist.
“All art supplies are included and you get to take your finished masterpiece home to hang on your wall with pride.”
I was a little nervous as I’m not a painter by any means but do enjoy a creative activity. We all picked up our brushes and started with the sandy beach.
The class lasted about 2 1/4 hours with a break in between; if you want to go and get yourself another drink, use the loo, or basically have a break whilst your paint is drying for the next level.
We all managed to get our masterpieces finished in time from 7 pm until 9:30 pm. We ended up with lots of different beach hut colour combinations with plain colours, stripes and flags. And I think that all of us came away quite pleased with what we managed to achieve.
Carol is doing other ‘paint and sip’ events across the city so if you’re interested check out her social page on Facebook and see if you’d like to join in.
