FIRST TASTER! Welcome to Middletons Steakhouse & Grill Peterborough
Soft lighting, grey, red and black classic styling, bare brick, laminate wood and black metal give Middletons a modern edge with a warm close feel. Candles lit on the tables for the evening give a somewhat romantic atmosphere with not-overpowering background music.
You can just about see into the kitchen where all the chefs are preparing food. The waiting staff are plentiful and attentive.
Manager Gary took us on a tour downstairs where there’s more seating for around 65 covers, it’s definitely great for parties down there as it’s private. And if you feel like eating al-fresco or it’s a bit warm, there’s also plenty of seating outside for around 48!
The menu is large and you’ll be spoiled for choice! Nearly everything can be made or converted to #glutenfree so don’t be afraid to ask.
So getting to the best bit…the food:
What did we have?
~Garlic and chilli prawns with sourdough bread. (£6.50) 5 large prawns oozing garlic and butter… finger bowl needed after this starter. Yum!
~Butchers chipolatas are deliciously tasty and come not smothered but with a side pot of honey & mustard sauce for dipping. (£5.15) yum again!
~Prawn cocktail with avocado & soda bread. (£5.95) comes in a pot and is ample as a fresh starter. Nice and traditional.
and on to some delicious mains.
~10oz gammon steak (£10.45) it’s extremely large so be warned and comes with a filling large mushroom, tomato and crushed peas. Way way too much for me but the taste was gorgeous.
~Classic mixed grill with sirloin (£19.95) steak “the best I’ve ever had” …butter would not cut smoother… it tasted beautiful and was cooked to perfection …(medium to well done)
~Side of dauphinoise potatoes – this small serving of ‘potato lasagne’ is creamy, garlicky and ‘enough’.
What can I say.. I’m full but you have to leave a bit of space for a little dessert, it would be rude not to!
~Chocolate pot: now how do I say this… chocoholics stand well back! your expectations won’t be disappointed with the choice…a layer of chocolate mousse, a layer of caramel, a dollop of fresh cream and a shortbread biscuit. …. Dark, velvety, stick-on-the-palate chocolate with a sweet caramel hiding underneath ready to surprise your tastebuds. Mmmm All gone!
The evening, although their first, was un-rushed and steady with booking. We received quality, well-cooked, tasty food and will definitely be going again.
In our opinion it’s just what Peterborough needs… a restaurant to get your teeth into literally – with the size and thickness of their steaks… and if you don’t want a steak the menu is definitely large enough to cater for alternatives!
