I was intrigued after someone telling me about what was happening at 15mins away at Thorney every few months and stated as ‘The Most Empowering Course On The Planet’ …
Was I nervous knowing that this evening was coming up? Actually no, not nervous at all, but when the time came to go outside… yes!
It was a lovely sunny evening last night and the purpose built cabin was cosy and functional. 14 people were here to engage in this class with a host of different reasons for doing it. Grief, intrigue, emotional strengthening, overcoming fear, adrenaline thrill seekers just having done a sky dive or just jumped off a mountain, health reasons and me – ‘just curious’. 😧 Am I crazy sitting here?
Attendees aren’t just locals, the furthest away tonight was 5 hours! They come up from London and around the UK if other locations are full. Sometimes the classes are full with 50 people and sometimes there are smaller groups like tonight.
The class started at 7pm and on arrival Steve was already moving wood to the pit. He’s been doing this for 32 years, lives on site and also does an instructors course, positive mental attitude courses as well as and breathpower courses. All here at Knarr Farm.
Indoors we were introduced to Sarka who took us through her story about why she was here, she told us about fears and how the mind can control what we feel, as well as emotion and confidence. Empowering ourselves to be more in control. This class would give us a life skill that we could then apply and get over other fears in our life as well as good at reducing stress because you have to remember that you are in control.
We had some exercises to do and the first one of them was lemons. It was incredible how people on stage could be eating pieces of lemon whereas those in the audience could sense the smell and taste of the lemons even when they weren’t eating them. Showing basically how the mind can be tricked. We then went onto our second exercise which was breaking an arrow in your neck! Yep, that was a bit of a challenge for me; but after two attempts I got through it. Everyone else did theirs first time – lucky them. (I’m a bit of a wimp when it comes to pain – I can’t jump off a diving board, I can’t have injections I struggle to go to the dentist.) Now I know I must be mad sitting here….
There was no third boosted bravery and confidence exercise as it was time to get your shoes off and go out to the firepit!
We are Wonder Woman or Superman, we are the fearless, the strong, the brave, the confident. Walk with purpose don’t dilly dally.
I queue up like everyone else, but I’m really unsure of myself. The grass is wet and cold. My feet are freezing. All I can think about is; is that going to make hot cinders even hotter?!? It’s my turn, but I can’t do it so I turn away and move a couple of people down. Two more go and then something changes in me, and I believe that all of these other people have just done what I would like to achieve. Just do it! So, handsome on hips as I imagine being Wonder Woman- it’s not going to kill me, it’s not going to hurt me. I can do this!!!
I look at Sarka, use my mantra of go go go and I’m off and within seconds it’s over and done with. My heart is racing and my feet are not on fire! 🔥 It feels like I’ve just conquered the world! 🌍
