The Cake Inn cake shop opened Sunday on Oundle Road. I went along today curious to take a look at what they do.
The variety of cakes in individual portions, milk cake tubs as well as occasion cakes is vast, I didn’t know where to look first. They are all colourful pretty cakes, large in size and with great names: ‘Funfetti’ in pink and white, bright green ‘Pistacchio’ milk cake, ‘TuttiFrutti’ in white topped with fruit pieces (strawberry, blueberries, tangerine, raspberry). Their ‘Chocolate Delight’ looks like a chocolate box on top with a rolo, terrys orange, Oreo and fruit topping,
The large cakes look fabulous for anyone’s birthday etc. 6” cake st £21.99, 8” cake at £24.99, and more. You find a whole list of their cake flavoured Victoria sponge like pistachio cake, chocolate cake, carrot cake, red velvet cake, lemon and lavender cake, they even create cupcakes and cheesecake! You get to add a free personalised message too if you’d like. And if you need a quick cake very quickly for an occasion, you can have something delivered in two hours or get it picked up.
They specialise in egg-free baking which caters for the lacto-vegetarian diet. I hasten to add it’s the ‘cake sponge’ which is egg free as the topped chocolate pieces like Oreo will have their normal ingredients in. They do create a selection of vegan cakes take a look on their website.
I wanted something chocolate so Ayat proposed the bottom row of the cabinet which were chocolate sponge rather than vanilla. So I picked the the one with a
Chocolate twirl stick, Mini ripple slice, Mini Oreo, Cadbury chocolate square and White chocolate curls on top of chocolate cream.
On eating at home I enjoyed a very light soft moist chocolate sponge in 3 layers with a light vanilla cream filling. It has the look and taste of a Black Forest gateaux without the cherries. 🍰 delightful, but do large I couldn’t eat it all. I had to save some for later. 😉
Expensive at £4 a slice??? I don’t think so for the amount of cake you get! You could easily share a slice or save it, like I did. Calories? I won’t go there… 🤣🤣 this is definitely a treat.
You’ll also find another Cake Inn on Lincoln Road, Millfield.
