I decided to go into the City Centre and have a look at the latest interactive gameplay outlet from Johnson, which is RaceCraft SIM on Midgate, that opened a couple of months ago.
Johnson and his partner were there to guide us with instructions on how to drive, how to play, and what to do. Basically, if you can drive it should be a piece of cake, you don’t have to do any gear shifts – just drive as an automatic. Everything will be done for you.
So my husband, Davide, and I had a quick training session on 3 qualifying laps on these brand-new driving games.
The event space has eight cars in a row. You can choose to play singularly or play against other teammates, up to 8 of you. Once seated, you get to choose the type of car you want to drive, you get to choose which track you want to go round and basically sit back and take a speeding motor racing car for a drive, but be eager to win.
This simulation is as real as I think it could be. You’re seated low with your feet against the brake and accelerator and hands on small steering wheel. You’re glued to your screen as the lights go green as you move off the starting grid; foot down and you’re away… through winding city streets, through break-neck 90 degree corners, flat out roads, through tunnels and more.
Luckily – or unluckily for my first time (lol), I sat on the interactive seat that could move. It meant with every turn, every bump, every burst of speed, and every braking moment, the car moved from side to side down the track turning corners, and as I put my foot on the brake the nose took a dive. It’s strange and great at the same time.
On the starting grid and the lights go green. After working out I had my foot on the brake!!!!! I remove it and head off speedily and end up doing 360° spins before getting round the first corner. I managed to get myself back on track and get the knack of it. A couple more crashes but I managed to get round at speed.
I’ve no idea what speed I got up to, but playing against my husband I came 2nd! (obviously)… Actually he got 3 minutes 16 quickest lap and I had 3 minutes 25 – so not bad, not bad.
I think this activity space could be very addictive – especially when they get their top racing grid up to show off who’s the fastest in the races – you’d want to be first right!!! 🏆
